US Strikes Iranian Targets; Tehran Threatens Gulf States

The United States launched strikes against targets belonging to Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps in southern Iran on Wednesday, according to U.S. Central Command. The strikes, which began around noon Eastern Time, were a response to attempted attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz and against American military personnel in the region. These actions follow President Trump's earlier announcement that the U.S. would retaliate for missile launches into Jordan, with the powerful strikes now seemingly carried out.

Explosions were reported in multiple locations in southern Iran, including Bandar Abbas, Qeshm Island, and Konarak, with reports indicating a military base in Konarak was hit. Shiite channels reported that U.S. Tomahawk cruise missiles struck various targets in southern Iran, including Bandar Abbas, Chabahar, Qeshm, Konarak, Jask, and Minab. A U.S. source confirmed to Al-Arabiya that targets in Bandar Abbas were attacked, with Tomahawk missiles reportedly launched from U.S. warships offshore. Additionally, there were unconfirmed reports of HIMARS missile launches from Bahrain, and Al-Arabiya updated that Qeshm Island's airport was also attacked.

The escalation has raised concerns about an Iranian retaliatory response. Iran has previously threatened "disproportionate revenge" for renewed U.S. attacks, and Iranian sources are now warning that Gulf states assisting the U.S. can expect a "night from hell." In response, U.S. embassies in Israel, Jordan, Oman, Qatar, and Bahrain issued security alerts for American citizens, with the U.S. embassy in Israel warning of potential regional escalation, flight cancellations, airspace closures, and travel disruptions.

U.S. bases and facilities in the Middle East, as well as bases within the United States, have been placed on heightened alert. Axios reported that security warnings were issued at several U.S. military bases and in various Middle East regions in preparation for a potential Iranian response. The developments have already impacted markets, with oil prices rising approximately 4% due to fears of conflict expansion and its effect on shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.

Israeli officials currently assess the incident in the Gulf as relatively contained, viewing it as part of the ongoing exchange of fire in the region since President Trump's declaration. However, the multiple reported strike locations and Iranian threats have fueled concerns that the conflict could widen in the coming hours. A new wave of attacks in Bandar Abbas has since been reported.
