US Strikes Iran, Tehran Retaliates Against American Bases

The US military's Central Command (CENTCOM) conducted airstrikes against Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) targets in Iran and the Strait of Hormuz overnight, according to a statement released by the command. These strikes were a response to recent IRGC attempts to attack commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz and target American service members in the region.

The US military detailed that the targets included air defense systems, radar installations, naval assets, facilities, mine-laying capabilities, and communication sites. Reports from Iran indicated that air defense systems were activated near Tehran, forcing the Iranian president's plane to land in a different city.

In retaliation, Iran launched missiles and drones targeting American bases in the region. Iran's Emergency Headquarters spokesperson, Ibrahim Zolfaghari, stated that Iranian attacks would continue until the US regretted its actions, warning of more severe responses to further American aggression. The IRGC also claimed responsibility for a combined missile and drone attack on American bases in Erbil, Iraq.

Jordanian reports mentioned the interception of eight missiles fired at an American base, and the UAE reported its military responded to an Iranian drone. No casualties or damage were reported in these incidents. This escalation follows two ship attacks near the Strait of Hormuz and Iran's attempts to lay mines in the waterway. This marks the second US strike on Iranian targets within three days.

The US Embassy in Israel issued an unusual security advisory for American citizens in the country, warning of a real possibility of sudden escalation and heightened security tensions.
