Hapoel Jerusalem Guard Jalen Smith Arrives, Eyes EuroLeague Ambitions

New Hapoel Jerusalem guard Jalen Smith has arrived in Israel, expressing excitement about the team's ambitious project and his personal desire to reach the EuroLeague. Smith, a familiar face in European basketball, landed on September 2nd and spoke to the press for the first time.

"I'm here, and it's a surreal feeling, I can't wait to start," Smith stated. He cited the team's aspiration to compete in the EuroLeague as a major draw, comparing the current project to his previous experience in the league. "The project here has drawn me in, there is a great aspiration and desire here to reach the EuroLeague, and the last time I was in such an ambitious project was when I was in the EuroLeague. It's good for both sides."

Smith believes his experience will be valuable to the team, which also features notable signings like Kenny Lofton Jr. and Shai Milt. "We have a lot of talent, and we've seen teams with a lot of talent that don't succeed. I will bring experience and help the players who don't have that much experience. We have endless potential." He also expressed anticipation for playing with teammate Yuval Sussman, with whom he previously won titles in Germany.

Addressing the security situation, Smith indicated it had not influenced his decision to join the team. "The security situation did not affect me. I spoke with people here and they made it clear to me that everything is fine. There is a good club here that will take care of all of us in any situation." He acknowledged the team would need to step up collectively following the injury to fellow key player Harper, a two-time EuroCup MVP.
