Dor Micha Reflects on Career, Maccabi Tel Aviv Exit, and Move to Lower League

Dor Micha, a prominent Israeli footballer, has begun a new chapter in his career at the age of 34 with MS Ashdod in the National League, a step down from the top-tier Premier League. In a podcast interview, Micha discussed the painful end to his time at Beitar Jerusalem and the challenges of playing in a less prestigious league, admitting he still struggles with the transition from playing before 20,000 fans to crowds of around 100.

Micha revealed he had offers in the Premier League but felt he would be more effective in a dominant team, opting for Ashdod over a relegation-threatened club. He described the National League as more stressful than anticipated, feeling immense pressure to help Ashdod achieve promotion. He also touched on his departure from Beitar Jerusalem, citing a perceived lack of belief in his abilities by the club's management, particularly Almog Cohen and Barak Itzhaki, and feeling he was made a scapegoat.

Reflecting on his controversial exit from Maccabi Tel Aviv years prior, Micha stated that he and his wife had sent messages to former owner Mitch Goldhar even after his departure, seeking closure, but received no response. He expressed a desire to clear the air with Goldhar, especially after the case was closed due to lack of evidence, and felt ignored despite Maccabi Tel Aviv personnel attempting to help him at the time. Micha still harbors a dream of retiring at Maccabi Tel Aviv.

He also discussed his career highlights, including the 2014/15 treble-winning season with Maccabi Tel Aviv, and credited Jordi Cruyff with significantly impacting his career and elevating the club's standards. Micha expressed regret over missed opportunities with the national team, admitting he withdrew himself from consideration at one point. Looking ahead, he hopes to play in the Premier League with Ashdod next season, seeing it as a potential last chance.
