Religious Zionist Alumni Urge Candidates Winter, Nechama to Unite or Withdraw

Dozens of alumni from the "Bnei David" academy have issued an unusual appeal to two of their former students, retired Brigadier General Ofer Winter and retired Colonel Hazi Nechama, urging them to either unite their political efforts or withdraw from the upcoming Knesset race. The appeal, coordinated with the "Miluimnikim - Victory Generation" movement, emphasizes the shared values of national responsibility and mission instilled at their alma mater.

The alumni warned that a fragmented right-wing vote could lead to the loss of hundreds of thousands of votes, potentially jeopardizing the right-wing bloc's ability to form a government. They highlighted that the upcoming elections could be decided by narrow margins, making the division of votes particularly consequential. The graduates expressed concern that such an outcome could negatively impact settlement, security, and the Jewish character of the state.

While stressing they do not ask Winter or Nechama to compromise their beliefs, the alumni insist on a decision reflecting national responsibility. They presented two options: unification into a viable political entity capable of passing the electoral threshold, or withdrawal from the race if unification is impossible. "He who cannot be part of a union that has a real chance of passing the electoral threshold is required to rise to the occasion, withdraw from the political race and find other paths to contribute to the people of Israel," the letter stated.

The alumni concluded with a stern warning, reminding the former officers of their upbringing in an institution that emphasized mission and leadership. "Precisely from those who grew up in a house of mission, leadership, and devotion to the State of Israel, we expect you to be the first to put the public good before personal consideration," they wrote, adding, "We will not forgive those who place their personal good above the good of the State of Israel."
