Sa'ar Warns Iran Must Never Get Nuclear Arms in Call With Japanese Counterpart
Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar spoke on Tuesday with his Japanese counterpart, Toshimitsu Motegi, about regional threats and the importance of international cooperation. Sa'ar thanked Japan for what he described as its consistent and principled position on the issue.
Sa'ar stressed that Israel is determined to prevent the Iranian regime from obtaining nuclear weapons. He said, "Israel is determined that the Iranian regime will never be allowed to obtain the most dangerous weapon in the world." He also said, "Our joint action with the United States has pushed back an immediate existential danger that the extremist Iranian regime would obtain nuclear weapons."
Turning to Lebanon, Sa'ar said, "Hezbollah is the body violating Lebanon's sovereignty and attacking Israel and its citizens." He added that Hezbollah should be disarmed, calling it an Iranian proxy and a shared threat to both Israel and Lebanon.
The conversation came as Israel continues efforts to contain Tehran's nuclear program and to rally international backing against regional threats. Sa'ar framed cooperation with allies, especially the United States and Japan, as central to that effort.
