Prominent Rabbi Urges Boycott of New Party Over Non-Jewish Candidate

Rabbi Shlomo Aviner, president of the Ateret Cohanim yeshiva in Jerusalem and a leading figure in Religious Zionism, has called for a boycott of the "Amcha Yisrael" party, led by Ofer Winter. Aviner stated during a lesson that voters should not support a party that includes Joseph Haddad, who is running second on the list, if Haddad is not Jewish. Aviner explained that while a non-Jewish individual should be treated well, they cannot hold leadership positions over the nation, even if they are considered a "righteous gentile" or a resident alien.

Winter's party, "Amcha Yisrael," rejected Rabbi Aviner's stance. Winter, a former IDF officer, highlighted his own military service and collaborations with Druze, Bedouin, and Christian commanders and soldiers. He recounted instances where he fought under and led individuals from these communities, emphasizing their bravery and worthiness to lead, citing specific examples like Imad Faris, Ahsan Daksa, Galaa Ibrahim, Alim Saad, and Salman Habaka.

Winter directly addressed Haddad, calling him "my brother Joseph" and expressing pride in Haddad's service as a commander in the Golani Brigade and his injury sustained while protecting the people of Israel. Winter affirmed Haddad's continued dedication to defending Israel both during and after his military service.
