Ofer Winter Rejects Rabbi Aviner's Exclusionary Stance on Non-Jewish Leaders

Winter directly countered the rabbi's view by citing his own experiences fighting alongside and being led by Druze, Bedouin, and Christian commanders and soldiers.

Winter recounted instances where he trusted and followed non-Jewish leaders in combat, emphasizing their worthiness and capability. He specifically mentioned commanders like Imad Faris and Ahsan Daksa, who fell in battle, and others such as Galaa Ibrahim, Alim Saad, and Salman Habaka, highlighting their bravery and leadership qualities. Winter stated, "They were worthy enough to be wounded and even fall for the country, they were worthy enough for us to follow them in battle, and they are worthy enough to lead."

Winter's response was prompted by Rabbi Aviner's ruling on a question regarding the candidacy of Yusef Haddad, who is listed second on Winter's party list. Rabbi Aviner stated that a non-Jew cannot be given leadership roles over the nation, referencing the Rambam's laws of kings. While Aviner clarified that this does not negate a non-Jew's status as a private citizen, he maintained they could not serve as leaders.

Winter concluded by expressing pride in Haddad's service as a commander in the Golani Brigade and his continued dedication to the Jewish people, despite being wounded in combat.
