Arab Democratic Gathering Links Women's Rights to National Struggle

The Arab Democratic Gathering (ADG) has asserted that defending women's rights, freedoms, and dignity, and confronting all forms of violence and discrimination against them, is an integral part of its political and national project, which is founded on the values of freedom, justice, and equality. The party emphasized that the struggle against occupation, fascism, racism, and national oppression does not permit the marginalization or postponement of internal societal issues. It stated that a society striving for freedom and equality cannot tolerate injustice, violence, and discrimination within its ranks.

The ADG stressed that women's rights extend beyond public participation or employment and education opportunities to include the right to a safe life free from economic, physical, verbal, psychological, and sexual violence and discrimination. The party declared that there is no free homeland without the freedom of women and individuals.

"We call for a society that does not tolerate the violation of women's rights, does not blame women for the violation of their rights, but rather works to protect victims and hold aggressors accountable," the ADG stated. It highlighted that protecting women from violence and harassment is not solely the responsibility of women or feminist and professional bodies, but a duty for the entire society, including its leaders, parties, and institutions. This requires a principled societal stance and the development of effective mechanisms for protection, accountability, and professional, fair treatment.

The party also underscored the importance of the role played by feminist and human rights associations and frameworks in defending women's rights and enhancing their status, advocating for the integration of societal roles and rejecting attempts to distort or demonize these groups. It affirmed victims' rights to have their voices heard and their narratives shared as they choose, without silencing, blame, or doubt, and their right to protection, support, and serious, responsible handling of their complaints.

The ADG noted with concern recent accusations published against a candidate on its list, related to practices contrary to the values and principles it upholds. The party expressed confidence in its partners on the list to handle the issue responsibly and take necessary steps in line with its values. Finally, the ADG called for responsible party and societal dialogue to establish a comprehensive popular reference and develop clear, independent, professional, and safe mechanisms for addressing complaints of assault, violence, and harassment, prioritizing victim safety and their right to protection, ensuring serious and responsible examination, fairness, and justice for all parties, leading to accountability through clear and reliable procedures. It affirmed that building these mechanisms is a shared responsibility of political parties, civil society institutions, and professional bodies.
