Israeli Arab Charged with Supporting ISIS and Training for Combat
Israeli police and the Shin Bet security agency announced on Wednesday that an indictment has been filed against Khamis Sawad, a man in his thirties from the Galilee region, for expressing support for the Islamic State (ISIS) and undergoing training to join its ranks abroad. The joint statement detailed that the Northern District police and the Shin Bet conducted an investigation into Sawad, who was arrested in recent weeks.
During his interrogation, Sawad reportedly revealed his allegiance to ISIS. The investigation uncovered that he had viewed instructional materials on combat techniques, weapons use, and the manufacturing of rockets and drones for terrorist purposes. He also expressed an intention to join the terrorist group's fight outside of Israel.
The Haifa District Prosecutor's Office filed the indictment against Sawad at the Haifa Magistrate's Court. A request has also been made to detain him until the legal proceedings are concluded.
