Noa Kirel to Mentor Instead of Compete at Festigal
Israeli pop star Noa Kirel will return to the "Top Secret Festigal" for her seventh appearance this year, but in a significantly different role. While it was expected to be her first opportunity to compete in the Festigal's song contest format, Kirel will not be participating in the competition. The song contest format was revived last Hanukkah after being discontinued in 2015, and was met with audience enthusiasm.
Kirel humorously stated she was "removed" from the competition, but the production has assigned her a unique role. According to reports, she will portray the winner of the Festigal's legendary song contest, effectively acting as a mentor to the other performers. This role means she will not compete alongside the other stars, though she will still have an original song in the show. This arrangement appears to be a compromise by the production to avoid having her compete.
Last year's contest was won by Shahar Tabuch and Eden Golan with the song "Switch," generating anticipation for this year's competition. Tabuch, also participating this year, was expected to face Kirel in a potentially historic matchup. For Kirel's fans, who grew up with her Festigal performances since she was 17, this decision might be slightly disappointing, but her new mentor role offers a distinct and special presence.
Kirel is not the only star opting out of the competition. Eden Ben Zaken, also appearing in "Top Secret Festigal," will not compete either. However, Ben Zaken is cast as a guest artist, similar to Sarit Hadad last year, performing only in a later segment. Kirel, conversely, is integrated into the show's central plot as a mentor.
Kirel's return also brings back memories of a previous Festigal incident where she required IV fluids and fainted due to the demanding performance schedule. She has reassured fans that she is more relaxed and prepared this time, advising the younger cast members in an interview to "just enjoy every second" and not forget to savor the experience. "Top Secret Festigal" is anticipated to be a major holiday season event, with Kirel remaining a key figure, proving that winning a competition isn't the only path to stardom.
