Israeli Mother Transforms Life After Son's Addiction Battle and Reality TV Stint
Chava Zingboim, a 60-year-old Israeli mother of six, has undergone a significant personal transformation, losing 30 kilograms and embracing a new focus on self-care. This journey began partly in response to her son Neria's public struggle with drug addiction, which was highlighted on the reality TV show "The Race to a Million." Neria and his sister Emona participated in the show, with Neria sharing his recovery process and his mother's unwavering support, including a period of estrangement until he agreed to enter rehab.
Zingboim's own path to self-discovery was influenced by her son's addiction. After realizing she couldn't help him overcome his struggles alone, she began attending 12-step program meetings for parents of addicts, inspired by an interview with Tzipi Grant. This experience taught her the importance of letting go, trusting her children, and focusing on her own growth. She emphasizes that her intention in setting boundaries with Neria was to foster his healing, not to punish him.
Her personal transformation includes a dramatic weight loss of 30 kilograms, achieved through a high-protein diet, exercise, and supplements, after a previous attempt with weight-loss injections proved unsuccessful. Zingboim also sought psychological help to address her relationship with food, realizing she had never learned to care for herself. This newfound self-awareness has led her to adopt a more active and youthful lifestyle, enjoying activities she previously avoided.
Zingboim's life has been marked by challenges, including a difficult childhood with a mother who suffered from mental illness and a father who struggled to cope. Despite these hardships, she developed resilience and a strong internal world. She and her husband, Moti, a former cantor, have six children and are actively involved in their lives and businesses, with her children now working alongside her in her Ramat Gan offices.
