Iran Strikes Jordan Bases After US Attacks; Explosions Heard Near Eilat

Iran launched a "decisive" retaliatory strike Tuesday against U.S. bases in Jordan, according to Iranian reports, as a wave of U.S. attacks on Iranian targets continued. Iranian media claimed missiles were fired at American bases in Jordan, and a U.S. drone was shot down over Iran. Explosions were heard in Eilat, Israel, as interceptors engaged Iranian missiles aimed at Aqaba, Jordan, near the Israeli border. Residents in Eilat reported seeing interceptors launched from the area toward Jordan.

Jordanian authorities sent mobile alerts to residents, including in Aqaba, warning of potential danger from debris and advising them to seek shelter. Reports indicate Jordan's air defense systems intercepted missiles in several areas, with alarms activated around 11:00 PM. Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps stated their target was the Thabteen camp on the Gulf of Aqaba.

U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed the strikes were American operations targeting Revolutionary Guard sites, stating they were in response to recent Iranian attempts to attack commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and U.S. troops in the region. The Iranian news agency Tasnim praised the strikes, calling them one of the most extensive Iranian missile attacks against American bases and sites, and warned of further retaliation.

The escalating tensions led to a significant rise in oil prices, with crude oil jumping approximately 5% to around $90 per barrel and Brent crude futures rising about 7% to $94.50. European natural gas prices also saw a surge. Former U.S. President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social, calling the U.S. strikes "big and powerful" and a response to Iran's failed attempt to plant naval mines and its missile launch towards a Jordanian base. He issued a strong warning of much greater retaliation if Iran responds.

The U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem issued a security alert for Americans in the Middle East, warning of potential escalation, flight cancellations, and travel disruptions. It noted that U.S. diplomatic facilities have been targeted and that Iran and its proxies might target additional U.S. interests and individuals globally. Trump, in an interview with Fox News, reiterated his threats against Iran and expressed skepticism about future agreements with the country, describing the Iranians as "crazy and stupid."
