Bat Yam Resident Charged in Organized Scam Targeting Russian-Speaking Seniors
Israeli prosecutors have filed an indictment against 31-year-old Oleg Pogosian of Bat Yam, alleging he was part of an organized fraud ring known as the “Russian scam.” The network is said to have targeted Russian-speaking elderly people across Israel.
According to the indictment, the group contacted seniors by phone and falsely claimed to be representatives of the National Insurance Institute, the Tax Authority, banks, and other institutions. After gaining their trust, they instructed victims to gather cash, jewelry, and other valuables and hand them over to a person sent on their behalf.
The charges against Pogosian include conspiracy to commit a crime, aggravated fraud committed jointly, impersonation, theft, and additional offenses. The case now moves forward in court.
