Israeli Guard Noam Yaakov Aims for NBA via G League

Israeli basketball player Noam Yaakov has decided to pursue a contract in the NBA by playing in the G League, the league's developmental system, after learning he would not be eligible to play college basketball next season. Yaakov explained in an interview with "Double Dribble" that the decision was not easy and presents a significant challenge, acknowledging the G League is a "grind" where players are intensely competitive.

Yaakov cited academic reasons for not being accepted into a U.S. college program but expressed confidence in his readiness for this new path. He described the G League as a tough league where everyone shares the goal of reaching the NBA, leading to fierce competition both from opponents and teammates. "Everyone is there with the same goal, to get an NBA contract, and everyone comes to tear each other apart, both those on your team and those against you," Yaakov stated.

He noted the demanding schedule, which can include playing three games in four days, followed by extended breaks. Yaakov, accustomed to the more structured European style of play, recognizes the need for adaptation but believes in his ability to succeed. The full interview is set to be released on Wednesday.
