Maccabi Haifa Faces Competition for Portuguese Winger Rony Lopes
Israeli football club Maccabi Haifa is facing competition for the signing of Portuguese winger Rony Lopes, a former Sevilla and Lille player. Lopes, who is currently a free agent, is also reportedly a target for Polish club Motor Lublin, which is considering acquiring him during the current transfer window.
Lopes, 30, previously played for Tondela in the Portuguese league last season, where he scored four goals and provided two assists. His career includes a stint at Manchester City's academy and transfers to Monaco, Braga, and Alanyaspor. He was purchased by Sevilla in 2019 for 25 million euros.
Despite the transfer window closing, Lopes, as a free agent, can theoretically sign with a club even after the deadline. He has represented Portugal twice internationally and has won the Europa League and the English Premier League. In the 2024/25 season, he recorded one goal and one assist in 29 appearances across Portugal and Turkey.
