Israeli Political Parties Explore Merger Ahead of Election Deadline

With only eight days remaining before the deadline for party list submissions, political commentator Amit Segal revealed that parties within the "Change Bloc" are actively polling a potential merger between Gadi Eisenkot's "Yashar" party and the "Achva" party, led by Naftali Bennett and Yair Lapid.

Segal reported that this option is being re-examined in recent days and remains on the table despite the limited time. For Eisenkot, such a union could resolve lingering questions about leadership within the bloc and potentially position him as the head of the largest party in Israel. This scenario could also present a challenge for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, as efforts by the Likud party to increase its strength might inadvertently harm other parties in the bloc, risking their failure to cross the electoral threshold.

Furthermore, Segal suggested that a large joint list exceeding 30 seats could complicate Avigdor Lieberman's aspirations for the premiership, making it harder for him to justify his leadership ambitions against a significantly larger party. Contrary to previous assumptions that such mergers might weaken the "Change Bloc," Segal noted that recent polls indicate the combined list would not diminish the bloc's overall strength.

Currently, this potential merger is being explored solely through polling, and no official comment has been received from Eisenkot's or Bennett's parties.
