Liberman Party Sends Legal Threat to Likud Activist Over Defamation

Avigdor Liberman and his Yisrael Beiteinu party have sent a pre-litigation warning letter to Likud activist Rami Ben Yehuda over a video he posted on X, formerly Twitter. The video, shared on August 30, allegedly recirculated and edited content from a September 2022 interview where Liberman was accused of offering money to eliminate a police commissioner and involvement in other serious criminal offenses.

The letter asserts that these claims, which portray Liberman as having ordered a murder and engaged in criminal acts, are defamatory and harmful to his public standing. Liberman's representatives highlighted that these allegations were previously made by Yossi Kemisa, who was convicted of defamation in May 2025 for these very claims, and that a court had already ruled them false.

Ben Yehuda is accused of not just sharing the video but editing it to emphasize the accusations, thereby amplifying the alleged defamation. The letter argues that publishing such content on a public social media platform exposes it to unlimited distribution and that Ben Yehuda is responsible for its republication, regardless of its prior existence.

The legal notice concludes by stating that freedom of expression does not grant immunity from defamation liability, especially when dealing with factual allegations that have already been legally determined to be untrue. The party is demanding Ben Yehuda cease further dissemination of the video.
