Liberman Faces Death Threats at IDF Recruitment Center

Avigdor Liberman, chairman of the Yisrael Beiteinu party and a Member of Knesset, visited an IDF recruitment center on Sunday, where he was met with harsh chants and death wishes from protesters. The protesters, identified as draft dodgers, shouted "Die today" at Liberman as he arrived to support new recruits, particularly from the Haredi (ultra-Orthodox) sector.

Liberman's visit coincided with the opening of a recruitment drive for Haredi youth, expected to continue for several days. He came to commend the young Haredi men who have chosen to enlist, emphasizing the importance of military service and social solidarity. He also stressed the need for a firm stance against those who evade service, advocating for severe sanctions.

"Our government will cancel all benefits, all perks, all budgets for draft dodgers and transfer them to all those who enlist, to all those who serve," Liberman stated. He outlined potential penalties for evaders, including criminal records, denial of benefits and pensions, restrictions on obtaining driver's licenses and international travel, and ineligibility for public sector employment.

The recruitment of Haredi individuals has drawn significant attention, with many young men seeking meaningful military service, while also facing opposition from certain segments of the community. Liberman's visit aimed to bolster the enlistment efforts and highlight the government's commitment to supporting those who serve, while punishing those who do not.
