Gadi Eisenkot to Receive Security Detail Until Election Day Amid New Threats

An advisory committee on personal security has recommended assigning a security detail to Gadi Eisenkot, chairman of the "Yisrael" party, until the upcoming election day. This decision follows the presentation of updated intelligence and findings by Eisenkot's staff to security officials.

This development marks a shift from a previous decision made a week prior, which sparked public controversy. At that time, Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar determined that there was no need for security for Eisenkot, stating that the General Security Service had not accumulated intelligence indicating concrete threats against him. Bar emphasized that his assessment was based solely on professional consultations, including with the chairman of the Central Elections Committee, Justice Noam Sohlberg.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu publicly intervened following the initial assessment, instructing the Shin Bet chief to re-examine the matter and ensure Eisenkot received adequate security. Meanwhile, a separate discussion will be held later regarding the security needs of Yair Golan, chairman of the "Democrats" party, for whom similar intelligence was reportedly transferred.
