School Security Guard Charged After Gunfight at Northern School Entrance

The Northern District Prosecutor's Office announced Monday it will file charges against a school security guard in Yafia, northern Israel, suspected of engaging in a gunfight at the school's entrance using an illegal weapon. The incident occurred in May.

Police received a report of gunfire at the school entrance and responded to the scene. An investigation revealed the shooting stemmed from a personal dispute involving the guard. Security footage and the investigation indicate an armed individual on a motorcycle arrived at the school entrance and fired at the guard's post. The guard returned fire with an illegal weapon, resulting in a gun battle at the school gate.

The guard was initially arrested near the scene but denied the allegations and was released under restrictive conditions. He was re-arrested on August 24th after further evidence was gathered. His detention was extended periodically, and prosecutors will now file charges and request his remand until the end of legal proceedings.

This incident follows a separate violent event in Yafia several months prior, where two men, both around 25 years old, were killed. Emergency medical services pronounced them dead at the scene. Police stated at the time that an investigation was opened into the circumstances of that incident, which involved unknown perpetrators and a criminal motive.
