Hasidic Rabbi Joins Sephardic "Selichot" Prayers Early

In a notable display of religious unity, the Grand Rabbi of Nadvorna-Elad was seen participating in Sephardic "Selichot" (penitential prayers) services on Saturday night at the "Mishkenot Neriah" synagogue in Elad. This event is significant because, by traditional Hasidic custom, these prayers are typically recited starting only on the Saturday night preceding Rosh Hashanah. However, Sephardic communities begin reciting "Selichot" as early as the first day of the Hebrew month of Elul.

The Rabbi was honored during the service with opening the Ark and blowing the Shofar before the Torah scrolls. This participation reflects a growing trend in recent years where Hasidic leaders are joining Sephardic prayer groups during the "Selichot" period, bridging traditional divides.

The "Mishkenot Neriah" synagogue service was led by Rabbi Avraham Levi. The Rabbi's attendance and participation in the early "Selichot" prayers, which commenced on the first day of Elul, highlights an inter-communal outreach and a shared spiritual observance.
