US Strikes Iranian Launchers in Hormuz Strait After Mine Removal

U.S. forces struck two Iranian missile launchers on Qeshm Island in the Strait of Hormuz, marking the first American strike in Iran in a month. The strike occurred after Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps forces were observed preparing to launch sea mines into the vital waterway. U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) had announced last week the completion of its operation to clear sea mines from international shipping lanes in the strait.

An American official confirmed the strike, which followed President Donald Trump's recent threats of military action against any Iranian attempts to re-deploy mines in the Strait of Hormuz. Trump had stated in a previous interview with N12 that the U.S. would act militarily, describing the situation as "open business" and suggesting Iran's response to previous actions was "very mild."

Following the confirmation of the U.S. strike, Iran's Fars News Agency reported an explosion on Qeshm Island. U.S. officials indicated they have reversed the trend in the strait, suggesting this could be a pivotal moment that might lead to gradual global economic relief and a better deal with Iran.

Earlier in the month, after a 60-day memorandum of understanding expired, Trump tweeted that the Strait of Hormuz was new U.S. territory, a statement that reportedly signaled waning patience in Tehran towards Washington.
