Haredi Sergeant Discusses Hasmonean Brigade's Spiritual and Professional Training

Sergeant G., who is expected to be among the commanders for new recruits in the Hasmonean Brigade, shared insights in an interview with Kikar HaShabbat about the brigade's environment and its approach to religious soldiers. He stated that the eight-month training is challenging but aims to produce "the best and most God-fearing fighters."

Sergeant G. emphasized that the brigade does not seek to convert soldiers, respecting individual religious guidance from their rabbis. However, he asserted that for those who choose to serve, the Hasmonean Brigade offers opportunities for both professional and spiritual growth. He described the atmosphere within the brigade as akin to Shabbat and holidays, fostered by God-fearing commanders.

He also revealed that some commanders have combat experience in Gaza, Syria, and Lebanon. Sergeant G. himself served for eight months in Lebanon and decided to transition to training the next generation, describing his combat experience as difficult and challenging but ultimately significant and fulfilling.

Regarding the month of Elul, a period of repentance and prayer in Judaism, he noted that the base adopts a "yeshiva atmosphere in every sense of the word," highlighting the spiritual focus during this time.
