Report: Hervé Renard Set to Take Over Tunisia
Hervé Renard is reportedly on the verge of becoming Tunisia’s new head coach after Sabri Lamouchi was dismissed following just one match. The veteran international manager has been approached by the Tunisian Football Federation and is expected to be brought in to rescue the team’s World Cup campaign.
According to the report, Tunisia’s offer to Renard also included assurances about his future beyond the current World Cup. In other words, even if Tunisia loses its next two matches, he may still remain in charge afterward.
The immediate task facing Renard is to revive Tunisia’s group-stage hopes. After a painful 5-1 loss to Sweden in the opening game, Tunisia is currently bottom of Group F. Its next opponent is Japan, which drew 2-2 with the Netherlands in a dramatic match.
Renard has extensive international coaching experience, having led Zambia, Angola, Ivory Coast, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, and even France’s women’s national team. At the previous World Cup, he coached Saudi Arabia when it beat eventual world champion Argentina.
