Man Severely Beaten After Warning Teenager About Road Safety
A 60-year-old man, Aryeh Ben Akan, was brutally assaulted in Kiryat Gat after he admonished a 16-year-old for crossing the road improperly. Ben Akan was on his way home from work when teenagers darted into the street. He stopped his car, rolled down his window, and spoke to them. The youths responded with verbal abuse, then physically attacked him, kicking and throwing him to the ground, causing a severe head injury. He was rushed to the hospital.
His wife, Livna Ben Akan, and daughter, Hali Ben Akan, recounted the incident, with Hali describing the trauma of seeing her strong father helpless. The family expressed shock and anger over the legal system's response. Despite an indictment being filed against the minor attacker, his swift release to a short period of house arrest and return to his routine has caused outrage, especially as Ben Akan continues to recover from the attack.
"We are not seeking revenge. I am seeking accountability, treatment, and prevention. We want to stop the next incident," Livna stated. The Israel Police confirmed that officers from the Kiryat Gat station investigated the incident, identified and arrested the suspect. Following the investigation and evidence gathering, the Lachish prosecution unit filed an indictment against him in court.
