Sudanese Military Leader Accused of War Crimes Made Secret Visits to Israel

Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, commander of Sudan's Rapid Support Forces (RSF), has reportedly made multiple secret visits to Israel, according to a report by Africa Intelligence. These visits, accompanied by other senior officials, are part of al-Burhan's efforts to cultivate ties with Israel to gain political and diplomatic support and bolster his international standing amid the ongoing conflict and political crisis in Sudan.

Al-Burhan and other RSF leaders are subject to personal sanctions from the United Nations, the United States, and the European Union due to alleged war crimes they committed in the Darfur region of western Sudan. The RSF militia has been engaged in a three-year conflict with the Sudanese army, and the US government has characterized their actions as genocide.

The report suggests that al-Burhan's outreach to Israel aims to leverage potential support to strengthen his position domestically and internationally.
