News Anchor Shares Surprising Pro-Israel Sentiment in Greece

Channel 14 news anchor Tal Meir returned from a vacation in Greece with a surprising observation about the local population: "Greeks love us! Seriously, I'm not exaggerating." Meir, who was off-air for two weeks, shared her findings from central and northern Greece, stating that many Greeks reacted with smiles and called Israelis "our friends" upon hearing their nationality. She noted that some individuals explicitly expressed their dislike for Turkish President Erdogan, a sentiment that was met with approval.

Meir acknowledged that while Hebrew signs at the airport indicate mutual economic interests and the significant role of tourism, with Israelis being a notable presence among Greece's approximately 40 million annual visitors, the connection runs deeper. She observed Greek guides at attractions providing instructions in Hebrew and mentioned that some guides understood Hebrew conversations despite never having visited Israel.

She further elaborated that the relationship between Israel and Greece has evolved into a broad strategic partnership encompassing security, energy, technology, economy, infrastructure, and tourism. Meir concluded that despite the reputational damage Israel sustained on October 7th, it has demonstrated impressive capabilities, and Greece continues to maintain its relationship with Israel, proud to stand with it amidst Mediterranean turmoil.
