Greek Health Minister Praises Israel’s Resilience and Happiness Amid Conflict

Adonis Georgiadis, Greece’s Health Minister and Deputy Leader of the ruling New Democracy party, publicly praised Israel’s resilience and national spirit during a recent live television broadcast. Known for his pro-Israel stance, Georgiadis contrasted Israel’s ongoing conflicts with Lebanon, Iran, Yemen, Hamas, and Syria to Greece’s social challenges, highlighting Israel’s economic growth and high happiness rankings despite constant threats.

Georgiadis, 53, who previously worked as a TV book presenter and apologized publicly in 2017 for promoting an antisemitic book, expressed deep admiration for the Israeli people. He described how the Israeli delegation prepared for hostile crowds by rehearsing with hired hecklers to maintain focus during performances. He emphasized Israel’s economic miracle, noting its $500 billion GDP and 3% growth amid warfare.

He lamented Greece’s social mood, contrasting it with Israel’s despite the latter’s harsh security environment. "Here in Greece, the weather is great but people are sad and complaining, while in Israel, with rockets and suicide bombings, they rank among the top five happiest countries worldwide," Georgiadis said. He concluded by questioning the psychological reasons behind this difference in outlook.

Georgiadis regards Israel as a strategic partner in energy and security and a "true miracle of humanity." His remarks stand out in Greece, where many prefer neutrality in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, reinforcing his position as a vocal supporter of Israel within the Greek government.
