Ultra-Orthodox Group Calls for Protest Against Haredi Draft; Police Prepare for Clashes

A day designated for the enlistment of ultra-Orthodox men into combat roles in the IDF is taking place today at the IDF Recruitment and Induction Center in Tel HaShomer. The event is occurring amidst significant controversy surrounding the conscription of Haredi men, and follows a wave of arrests of yeshiva students for Torah study.

The Edah HaChareidis rabbinical court in Jerusalem issued a sharp letter calling on the ultra-Orthodox public to participate in protests and persuade potential draftees not to enlist. The court stated that many Haredi men studying Torah have been summoned for military service, which they deem unacceptable. The letter urges those able to join protests and "speak according to Torah law" to convince young men not to enlist, warning against joining the army.

Police are preparing for the arrival of protesters near the recruitment center, anticipating potential disturbances and confrontations. The IDF is simultaneously preparing to receive the new recruits and maintain the normal operations of the enlistment day.

In parallel to the draftees and protesters, politicians are also expected to attend the site to express support for the Haredi draft. This includes Avigdor Lieberman, chairman of Yisrael Beiteinu, and Yoaz Hendel and Moti Litner, chairmen of the National Union, National Religious Party. The presence of politicians is expected to turn the recruitment center into a political battleground, particularly in the context of the ongoing election campaign.
