Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef Fiercely Attacks Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara

Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef, the Sephardic Chief Rabbi and former Rishon LeZion, launched a scathing verbal assault on Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara. The attack was prompted by Baharav-Miara's demand to cancel or postpone the memorial event for Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, citing concerns that holding it during an election period could be construed as election propaganda.

"This crazy Miara, may the Holy One, Blessed be He, destroy her and give her her punishment," Rabbi Yosef declared. He argued that the memorial event is a matter of honoring a "great leader of generations" and not political campaigning. He recalled that nearly a million people, from all segments of Israeli society, attended the seven-day mourning period for his father, Rabbi Ovadia Yosef.

Rabbi Yosef contrasted the situation with the memorial for assassinated Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, which he noted was held close to an election without prohibition. He questioned why an event honoring his father, whom he described as a Torah scholar rather than a political figure, faced such restrictions.

"She is dealing with Maran, a great leader of generations. This will not pass in silence," Rabbi Yosef concluded, emphasizing the perceived insult to his father's legacy and his personal outrage.
