Nissim Ben Shimon, one of the leading judges and rabbis in the Sephardi ultra-Orthodox world, issued a sharp warning to Attorney General Gali Baharav Miara amid rising tensions between the religious study world and Israel’s justice system over religion and state issues.
In a video published by Kan News, Ben Shimon was seen speaking at a special conference in Bnei Brak attended by dozens of leading community rabbis. During the speech, he cited rabbinic sources about the severity of insulting Torah scholars and applied them directly to the attorney general's conduct.
He said, "It is written that anyone who humiliates Torah scholars has no remedy for his ailment," and then added the comment that triggered the outrage: "Next week, the attorney general will start to feel something unpleasant, until she regrets everything." The remarks were presented as a direct and dramatic warning to Baharav Miara as the dispute over religious matters intensifies.
