Olympiacos to Host Hapoel Tel Aviv in Alternate Venue Due to Arena Renovations

Olympiacos, the reigning European basketball champion, announced on August 28, 2026, that it will not play at its home arena, Peace and Brotherhood Hall, for the remainder of 2026 due to extensive renovations. Consequently, the Greek club will host Hapoel Tel Aviv at a different venue on November 25, 2026. The alternative site is expected to be the 9,327-seat Sonel Arena, home to AEK Athens, which is smaller than Olympiacos's usual 11,640-seat arena.

The decision means that Hapoel Tel Aviv, coached by Dimitris Itoudis, will avoid playing at one of the major European home courts. Additionally, Maccabi Tel Aviv is scheduled to play at Sonel Arena on January 28, 2027, likely missing their away game in Piraeus as well. Olympiacos's sports director, Christos Bafes, stated that the renovation work is about 80% complete and emphasized the importance of quality, confirming the team will not return to their home arena during 2026.

While Olympiacos will continue routine maintenance at Peace and Brotherhood Hall, the team plans to train there during the 2026/27 season. The club's EuroLeague home games for the first half of the season include matches against Anadolu (October 9), Fenerbahce (October 23), Milan (October 30), Crvena Zvezda (November 6), Dubai (November 12), Real Madrid (November 20), Hapoel Tel Aviv (November 25), Villeurbanne (December 4), and Partizan Belgrade (December 18). Later games include Baskonia (January 13), Paris (January 15), and Maccabi Tel Aviv (January 28).
