Editor Demands Explanation from Shomron Council Deputy and Leli Deri Over Joining Ofer Winter's Party

Emmanuel Shila, editor of the newspaper 'B'Sheva,' sharply criticized Shomron Regional Council Deputy David Ben-Zion and Leli Deri for their decision to join Ofer Winter's new political party. In a public post, Shila directly addressed the two, demanding an urgent explanation to their voters. He highlighted that both Ben-Zion and Deri had long championed the cause of drafting ultra-Orthodox Jews into the military, often vocally and assertively.

Shila pointed out a significant contradiction between their previous stance and the platform of Winter's party, which opposes compulsory drafting of Haredim, instead advocating for persuasion and creating suitable frameworks for their service. He noted that Winter's position closely aligns with right-wing coalition parties that reject forced conscription.

Concluding his critique, Shila questioned how Ben-Zion and Deri reconcile their past advocacy with their new political alliance and called for clear answers regarding their willingness to run with a party holding fundamentally different views on a key issue they once championed.
