MK Moshe Saada Condemns IDF Chief for Defending Disgraced Military Prosecutor
MK Moshe Saada sharply criticized the IDF Chief of Staff for his handling of the dismissed military prosecutor involved in a financial controversy. Saada argued that the Chief of Staff should have been the first to demand the revocation of her ranks and benefits instead of fighting to preserve them. The dispute centers on the Chief of Staff's insistence on transferring funds to the dismissed prosecutor, leading to a clash with the Finance Ministry. Saada described the situation as "an upside-down world," emphasizing that the prosecutor falsely accused reservists, resulting in wrongful arrests, and thus should not receive any financial benefits.
Saada accused the military legal system of protecting its own, calling the military prosecution unit "rotten" and claiming it shields the accused to avoid accountability. He noted that the Chief of Staff could have stripped her of her ranks a year and a half ago but chose not to, despite her damaging the reputation of soldiers and the state. Saada compared this to how the military would quickly act against an officer accused of espionage for Hezbollah.
Regarding the Chief of Staff's motives, Saada suggested a culture of mutual protection among military officials, noting that the Chief of Staff was a controversial appointment opposed by Saada and another MK. He criticized the legal advisors supporting the Chief of Staff and accused them of obstructing reforms to the Military Police Investigations Unit. Saada praised the Finance Ministry officials for questioning the rush to grant benefits before the criminal process concludes, highlighting the financial burden on taxpayers.
Saada called on the Defense Minister to demand clarity from the Chief of Staff on whose interests he is defending, stressing that the military should protect soldiers and reservists, not the dismissed prosecutor who falsely accused them and caused wrongful imprisonment. He condemned the Chief of Staff for defending "this criminal woman" instead of the fighters.
