Love Island USA executive producer dies during Fiji shoot

James Barker, the executive producer of Love Island USA, died last week during filming in Fiji after what ITV America and Peacock described as an “unexpected medical emergency.” The announcement was made Monday, and the networks said he suffered a sudden medical event on the South Pacific island. No further details about the cause of death have been released.

Barker was 40 years old. In a statement to NBC, the companies said he was “a beloved and deeply respected member of our professional family” and that his “kindness, talent and dedication left an indelible mark on everyone who knew and worked with him.” They added condolences for his family, friends and colleagues.

Barker had served as executive producer on the successful dating reality show since 2020 and had been involved with the production for years. Love Island USA, adapted from the British series of the same name, is currently in its eighth season and premiered this month.
