Prominent Activist Arrested for Allegedly Planning Minor Daughter's Wedding

A well-known activist, who campaigns against child marriage, is under investigation for allegedly planning to marry off her 16-year-old daughter. New details emerged Thursday regarding the arrest of the activist, who reportedly intended to hold the wedding at a local event hall. The owner of the hall told i24NEWS that the activist had sent out digital invitations and confirmed the event was proceeding, only to later cancel at the last minute, leaving the venue with unfulfilled arrangements.

Further complicating the case, it was revealed that the activist's 18-and-a-half-year-old son is already a father to a five-month-old baby. His partner, who is the same age, became pregnant when she was a minor. The activist claimed during questioning that the couple was only engaged at the time.

She also asserted that she was the one who canceled her 16-year-old daughter's wedding, stating, "I am the one who canceled the wedding and tried to prevent it, but they didn't listen to me. I fought to stop the wedding." The hall owner recounted that the activist had been unresponsive to calls the day before the planned event, and later sent a message stating the wedding was off. He added that the couple had gone incommunicado, employing diversions such as having a blind woman sign documents in their place during the contract signing. He condemned their actions as a "crime" against children and businesses.
