Shas Party Condemns Supreme Court President's Remarks on Ultra-Orthodox 'Kosher Phones' as Arrogant and Detached

The Shas party sharply criticized Supreme Court President Justice Isaac Amit for his comments during a Supreme Court hearing, where he stated that a significant portion of the ultra-Orthodox community carries two phones: one kosher phone for show and a more advanced smartphone for actual use. These remarks were made during a hearing on a petition filed by Lobby 99 and the Tzlacha Association against decisions allowing regional radio stations to broadcast beyond their designated areas.

Justice Amit's comment came amid a discussion on the Communications Authority Council's decisions and a directive by Communications Minister Shlomo Karhi to expand broadcast zones under emergency powers granted by the Communications Law. The petitioners seek to annul decisions dated March 1 and June 30, 2026, and Karhi's May 11, 2026 decision.

Shas responded by condemning Amit's statements as arrogant and disconnected from a large community that chooses to raise its children in a protected and pure environment. The party emphasized its pride in leading legislation to preserve the kosher standard and vowed to continue defending the right of all communities to live according to their faith.
