Hyundai Launches Tucson PHEV in Israel Cheaper Than Kia Sportage PHEV

Hyundai has introduced the Tucson plug-in hybrid (PHEV) to the Israeli market for the first time, offering two trim levels and a starting price 20,000 shekels lower than the competing Kia Sportage PHEV. The Tucson PHEV features a 1.6-liter turbocharged gasoline engine paired with a 107-horsepower electric motor, delivering a combined output of 283 horsepower and accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.5 seconds. It uses a 13.8 kWh battery providing an electric range of 68 to 71 kilometers, depending on the trim.

Hyundai publishes fuel consumption figures of 16.4 to 16.9 km per liter when the battery is depleted, slightly less efficient than the Tucson hybrid version. The vehicle supports a 7.2 kW onboard charger, allowing a full charge in about 1 hour and 45 minutes. The Tucson PHEV is available in two trims: the entry-level One and the higher-end Icon. The One trim includes a basic digital dashboard, 12.3-inch multimedia screen, wireless charging, parking sensors, rearview camera, heated front seats, and a comprehensive safety package with seven airbags and advanced driver assistance systems.

The Icon trim adds a 12.3-inch customizable digital display, 360-degree cameras, leather upholstery, electrically adjustable and ventilated front seats, panoramic sunroof, premium Krell audio system, LED lighting, and larger 19-inch wheels. Safety features include additional parking speed warning and braking systems. Compared to the Kia Sportage PHEV, the Tucson Icon offers some exclusive features such as 360-degree cameras and child reminder alerts, while the Sportage provides driver seat memory and hands-free trunk opening.

Pricing for the Tucson PHEV starts at 200,000 shekels for the One trim and 230,000 shekels for the Icon. Hyundai offers a 5-year/100,000 km warranty on the vehicle and a 7-year/155,000 km warranty on the battery. Maintenance intervals are set at one year or 15,000 km, whichever comes first. To promote the launch, Hyundai is providing a 4,000-shekel discount and a free charging station (excluding installation) with the purchase of the Tucson PHEV.
