Iranian Political Activist Warns US Sanctions Strengthen Extremists in Tehran Regime

An Iranian political activist opposing the regime warned in an interview with Kan News on Tuesday that continued US sanctions on Tehran are likely to empower extremist factions within the government. Official Iranian sources have threatened countries cooperating with the new American sanctions aimed at isolating the regime and severing its ties to the global financial system. However, voices from within Iranian society express concern that these sanctions primarily harm the public rather than the ruling authorities.

The activist, familiar with Tehran's political system, emphasized that while the Iranian population faces severe economic pressure, the sanctions do not directly weaken the regime's grip. He cautioned that worsening conditions in the Islamic Republic could lead to an irreversible path, making it increasingly difficult to subdue Iran.

Recent days have seen several economic protests across Iran, though their scale remains much smaller than the large demonstrations in January. US President Donald Trump condemned Iran for killing protesters at unprecedented levels, calling the situation a massive humanitarian crisis that must be stopped. The United States has imposed sanctions on dozens of Iranian-linked entities as part of its strategy to pressure the regime.
