Satmar Hasidim Celebrate 20 Years of Community Growth in Jerusalem

The Satmar Hasidic community in Jerusalem recently marked two decades of their establishment with a series of vibrant celebrations and religious events. The festivities included a stirring awakening ceremony at the holy site of Meron, led by Rabbi Elimelech Biderman and the Be'er HaEmunah group from Beit Shemesh, featuring fire torches and shofar blasts to inspire repentance with joy rather than sadness.

In addition, the Satmar leadership saw a significant relocation as the Admor of Kretshnif Sighet moved from Beit Shemesh to Jerusalem, settling near the community's central hub on Rappaport Street. This move coincided with other communal milestones, such as the start of the new school year at the Talmud Torah "Toldot Avraham Yitzchak" in Beit Shemesh, where children celebrated with a special Chumash party.

The celebrations extended beyond Jerusalem, with joyous wedding festivities for the son of the Admor of Brimnov held in Antwerp, Belgium, and a grand Bar Mitzvah for the eldest grandson of the Admor of Rachmastrivka. The Satmar Rebbe also performed the traditional "Shiluach HaKen" (sending away the mother bird) ritual at his home in Kiryas Joel, Monroe, symbolizing spiritual renewal.

Throughout the month of Elul, various Hasidic groups, including Satmar, Chernobyl, and others, gathered for inspiring gatherings and Torah study sessions, often led by prominent rabbis and community leaders. The community also implemented new modesty guidelines at the Satmar girls' school "Beit Rachel," banning denim clothing even outside school hours.

These events reflect the vibrant spiritual life and growth of the Satmar community in Jerusalem and beyond, emphasizing joy, tradition, and communal unity as they prepare for the upcoming High Holy Days.
