Smotrich Says U.S.-Iran Deal Is Bad for Israel, Warns of Pressure on Government
Religious Zionism leader and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich said at the start of his faction meeting that the new agreement between the United States and Iran leaves him with a strong sense of disappointment.
He called the deal “bad for Israel and for the entire free world,” and said that while he is hearing criticism and suggestions from outside, “the truth” is that the diplomatic, security and international pressure on Israel’s government and on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is unprecedented.
Smotrich said Israel’s immediate test is in Lebanon, and argued that Israel must maintain a long-term presence in the security zone.
