J.D. Vance and Wife Say Charlie Kirk Killing Helped Prompt Fourth Child Decision

U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance and his wife, Usha Vance, said in a recent interview that the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk last year strongly influenced their decision to have a fourth child. The couple already has three children, announced in January that Usha was pregnant, and said they are expecting a boy in July.

Vance said he spent time with Kirk’s widow, Erika, on the day of the killing, and she told him, through tears, that she regretted having only two children with Charlie. Usha Vance said the couple had discussed another child before, but “something changed” for both of them after Kirk was killed.

According to Usha Vance, the exchange with Erika made the idea feel more urgent and meaningful. “It really solidified for him the feeling that if you can have that extra child, then you will have nothing to regret,” she said, adding that Erika’s words were “very powerful and moving for both of us.”

Usha Vance emphasized that Kirk’s death was not the sole reason for the decision, but said it came amid an already ongoing conversation about expanding their family.
