J.D. Vance Says 2028 Decision Will Wait Until After Midterms
U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance said on CBS on Sunday night that he will not decide whether to run for president in 2028 until after this year’s midterm elections. He said the matter will come up later in a family discussion with his wife, Usha, when the time is right, adding, “I and Usha will definitely sit down and talk about what comes next for our family.”
Vance said his decision-making style is to avoid choosing before he absolutely has to. “The way I make decisions is that I try not to make them until I really have to,” he said.
He also said he expects President Donald Trump to support him regardless of what he eventually decides. “I have no doubt that the president of the United States will strongly support whatever I ultimately decide to do,” Vance said, while noting, “We really haven’t talked about exactly what that will be.”
The 41-year-old former Ohio senator is now one of the most prominent figures in the Republican camp. He said Trump often raises his political future, sometimes publicly and sometimes in private conversations. “I never bring it up. But yes, the president brings it up a lot, sometimes in public and sometimes in private talks,” Vance said. “The president is a political animal. He likes this stuff. It really intrigues him.”
