Israeli Authorities Demolish Illegal Structures at Religious Site in Hatzor HaGlilit

Early Monday morning, the Israeli Land Enforcement Authority carried out an operation at the Tomb of Honi the Circle-Maker in Hatzor HaGlilit, demolishing illegal buildings constructed without permits. The enforcement action, conducted with police assistance and coordinated with the State Prosecution's Prosecutors Guidance Department and the National Unit for Planning and Construction Enforcement, aims to regulate the site, enhance safety, and develop it for visitors. The site, a religious and historical location attracting hundreds of thousands annually, has long faced unauthorized construction and safety infrastructure deficiencies.

Following lessons learned from the Mount Meron disaster, the authority emphasized reducing hazards at crowded sites. The demolition is part of a broader approved plan to rehabilitate and preserve the area, which includes removing structures that do not comply with planning regulations and pose public safety risks. The Land Enforcement Authority stressed its commitment to combating illegal construction that endangers public safety and maintaining legal order at a site visited by large crowds.
