Palestinian Authority and Egyptian Intelligence Discuss West Bank Situation and Upcoming Elections

Recent discussions have taken place between senior Palestinian Authority officials and Egyptian intelligence regarding the situation in the West Bank and the upcoming Palestinian Legislative Council elections. Hussein al-Sheikh, deputy to Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, met with Hassan Rashad, head of Egyptian intelligence, and other Egyptian officials in recent weeks. The talks focused on the expanding Israeli presence and control in the West Bank, as well as concerns about the political landscape ahead of the elections scheduled to be held in Ramallah. Egyptian officials reportedly expressed apprehension about the potential increase in Hamas's influence within the Palestinian parliament.
