Rabbi Yosef Chaim Shneur Kotler Delivers First Lecture at Lakewood Yeshiva Continuing Family Legacy
On Sunday, Rabbi Yosef Chaim Shneur Kotler, only son of Rabbi Aryeh Malkiel Kotler, head of the Lakewood Yeshiva in New Jersey, gave his first lecture at the yeshiva, marking a significant continuation of the Kotler family's leadership in Torah scholarship. This event symbolizes the ongoing legacy that began with the yeshiva's founder, Rabbi Aharon Kotler, followed by his son Rabbi Yosef Chaim Shneur Kotler zt"l, and currently led by Rabbi Aryeh Malkiel Kotler.
Rabbi Yosef Chaim Shneur Kotler, named after his grandfather, delivered his inaugural shiur in the historic Beit Midrash where his grandfather once taught. Known from childhood as the "prince of Lakewood," he was recognized for his dedication and refined character. He studied under Rabbi B. Wachfogel in South Fallsburg before moving to Israel to learn from Rabbi Yonatan David, whom he regards as his mentor.
He is married to the daughter of Rabbi Shmuel Badush, head of the "Lev Eliyahu" yeshiva in Mexico City, and has established himself as a respected scholar in the yeshiva. His appointment follows a pattern of recent leadership transitions within the yeshiva, including the sons and sons-in-law of other heads of yeshivas, such as Rabbi D. Shustal and Rabbi Y. Olshin.
Rabbi Shneur Kotler's first lecture focused on the Talmudic tractate Bava Kama, specifically the topic of "toldotam kiyotzim bahem." He was accompanied by his father and other yeshiva leaders, underscoring the significance of this milestone in the yeshiva's history and future leadership.
