Go Ahead Eagles Confirm Thibo Baeten Will Stay, Ending Maccabi Tel Aviv Transfer Speculation

Maccabi Tel Aviv was reportedly interested in signing Belgian defender Thibo Baeten from Dutch club Go Ahead Eagles as a potential replacement for Roy Revivo. However, the transfer will not materialize. Jan Willem van Dop, CEO of Go Ahead Eagles, confirmed on August 23, 2026, that Baeten will remain with the club. Van Dop stated, "There were various discussions, but we talked to him and eased the pressure. He will stay, we closed the door, the matter is settled." This announcement comes as Maccabi Tel Aviv prepares to open their season with an away match against Hapoel Jerusalem, amid several player departures and transfer rumors. While the club has seen some players leave or linked with moves away, there has been little incoming transfer activity so far. Van Dop also mentioned that the club is still considering signing a right winger, but Baeten will not be part of any transfer to Israel.
