Avir Kara Stands by Decision to Join Change Government Despite Criticism

Avir Kara reaffirmed his support for the formation of the Change Government, which transferred the prime ministership to Yair Lapid and included the Ra'am party, stating he does not regret the decision even in hindsight. His remarks came during a dispute triggered by Gideon Sa'ar's criticism of Gadi Eisenkot's political conduct and his entry into the government in September 2024 without a political agreement. Kara responded sharply to Sa'ar, accusing him of breaking his promise not to sit with Netanyahu and misleading the public to eventually join Netanyahu's government, calling it "not honest."

When questioned about his own participation in the Change Government despite similar promises not to allow Lapid to lead or partner with Ra'am, Kara insisted he stands by his choice, viewing it as the right decision in retrospect. He noted that he was open to forming a government with Likud but blamed Sa'ar for opposing that move. Kara emphasized that his main criterion was advancing economic policies he supported, rather than the identity of government partners.

Kara described himself as a right-winger who saw the current government as economically radical left and populist right, and said he was willing to join any government that would implement reforms he advocated. He highlighted that after a government with Likud failed to form, left-wing MKs supported a budget including right-wing economic reforms, some of which were later reversed by the current government, citing agricultural reform as an example.
