British Charity Under FBI Scrutiny Over Hamas Funding Allegations

The British Ministry of Education is investigating four Islamic schools operated by a Muslim charity organization after an individual linked to the charity was charged in the United States with transferring funds to Hamas. The accused, currently detained in the UK and awaiting extradition hearings, is alleged by federal prosecutors in New York to have coordinated extensively with senior Hamas officials to raise funds and transfer goods to Gaza. The indictment claims he acted under Hamas directives and falsified documents to conceal Hamas as the true beneficiary from donors.

The charity denies any connection between the suspect and the schools, which include three in London and one near Birmingham. The UK Charity Commission is also examining the charity's ties to the accused. The charity states it is fully cooperating with authorities and emphasizes that the suspect had no involvement with the schools. Last month, the group "Lawyers for Israel in the UK" urged the British Home Office to investigate the charity over reasonable suspicions of links to terrorism.

The charity insists it condemns all violence and terrorism, asserting that its educational approach in the schools serves as a positive measure against extremism and isolation. The investigation reflects growing concerns about potential misuse of charitable organizations as conduits for terrorist financing in the UK.
